Construction unit Ferrovial Agroman has secured two road widening contracts in Brazil, in consortium with Brazilian company Toniolo, Busnello.

The new contracts, which together worth BRL224.8m ($93.8m), involve widening of a section of toll road between the cities of Sao Paulo and Curitiba in south-eastern Brazil

The contracts include batches six and seven of the ‘Duplicação da Serra do Cafezal’ project on the Régis Bittencourt highway, BR-116.

Régis Bittencourt toll road, which is owned by Brazilian operator Arteris, is considered to be one of the most heavily-travelled roads in the country.

"This contract expands Ferrovial Agroman’s international presence."

Ferrovial’s two contracts are part of the project to widen the Serra do Cafezal section of the highway, between the towns of Miracatú and Juquitiba, in the south-east region of Sao Paulo state.

They cover around 4.6km of road, including the construction of three tunnels and five viaducts, the longest of which is 845m in length.

Ferrovial Agroman CEO Alejandro de la Joya said: "This contract expands Ferrovial Agroman’s international presence as it is our first project in Brazil."

Ferrovial Agroman has been focusing on fortifying its international footprint in recent years.

In 2013, the company earned 70% of its total revenues from outside Spain, with international contracts accounting for 70% of its backlog.
