Kapsch TrafficCom and Poland’s road authority Generalna Dyrekcja DrógKrajowychi Autostrad (GDDKiA) have developed a smartphone app for the country’s viaTOLL tolling system.

The app has been built to provide users with improved services and transparency in the tolling process.

Kapsch has designed the app to provide a wide range of services such as enabling private car and truck drivers check their balance of their viaTOLL account, as well as add credit and find customer service facilities across the country.

"We are constantly seeking ways to integrate mobile devices into our traffic management solutions to offer real added-value services to road users."

The app can be downloaded free of charge for iOS and Android users, and Windows version is currently under development.

The app helps users to access information regarding the prepaid account balance, top-up the account using a credit or a fleet card, and set up a route to the nearest customer service facility.

viaTOLL was first created and launched by Kapschin in July 2011, and since then, the company, in collaboration with GDDKiA, has regularly conducted awareness and satisfaction surveys to determine the best forms of communication, payment methods and suggestions in case of account management facilities.

The research defined a few specific needs that resulted in the development of e-note (electronic monthly statement including all transactions) and SMS account check.

It also revealed the wide usage of mobile devices by drivers.

These reasons accounted for the collaborative launch of the GDDKiA and Kapsch app dedicated to easier management of the viaTOLL accounts.

Kapsch TrafficCom CEO Georg Kapsch said: "We see a growing need to make traffic management and tolling more user-centered.

"Smartphones are an integral part of everyday life, so we are constantly seeking ways to integrate mobile devices into our traffic management solutions to offer real added-value services to road users."

The app also meets high-security standards at par with mobile banking applications.

It has been equipped with several functionalities to ensure the highest level of personal data protection and transaction security, the company claimed.

The app also comes with features such as automatic logging-out procedure after a particular time, SSL encryption and automatic blockade after 20 unsuccessful login attempts.
