Miovision, a Canadian traffic systems technology company, has launched MyCitySmarts.com, a free survey and guide to help cities improve the flow of traffic.

It identifies a road network’s strengths and suggests ways to ease traffic.

The MyCitySmarts survey is an easy self evaluation tool.

"The MyCitySmarts survey will help them identify their challenges and how to overcome them."

Miovision intelligent transportation system managing director Dave Bullock said: “While a lot of cities are starting to investigate smart traffic technology, many simply don’t know where to start.

“It can be a daunting task.

"The MyCitySmarts survey will help them identify their challenges and how to overcome them.

"By comparing responses different stakeholders within the city, it can help ensure that teams are on the same page when it comes to setting priorities and implementing changes.”

When a city or agency representative completes the survey, they are provided with a customised infographic with a complete smart traffic signal score, as well as an in-depth breakdown in four main aspects, on  building an ITS master plan; adopting appropriate  technologies to meet goals; evaluating traffic signal system performance; and openly sharing traffic data with stakeholders.

When a city scores one of the three colours, red, yellow or green, they will be provided with tangible steps to speed up smart traffic adoption such as on developing a master plan, upgrading technology, training staff or adopting an open data policy.
