A strategic agreement has been signed between Netherlands-based Nedap and Czech company Cross with an aim to improve urban traffic flow management.

A specialist in vehicle detection and identification technology, Nedap has created the SENSIT wireless parking bay sensor system, while Cross is the developer of InVipo adaptive traffic management and information system.

The integration of the two technologies will provide real-time information about public transport, as well as vehicle and pedestrian movements, which will help local transport authorities to provide better traffic services for residents.

The new technologies will also reduce CO2 emissions and travel times.

Cross CEO Tomas Jurik said: "Cross is happy to partner with NEDAP as both companies strive for tackling smart mobility by offering cutting-edge solutions in their respective areas of expertise."

"We are now able to provide a complete solution for smart city customers in order to improve urban mobility."

Nedap’s SENSIT features wireless in-ground sensors that can locate an available parking bay and detect how long a bay has been occupied.

This real-time data is commuted to the SENSIT software using wireless radio communication.

When integrated with Cross’ InVipo, the live data helps drivers to easily locate available parking space and also enables parking operators to increase the usage of existing parking lots.

Nedap business development manager Ido Wentink said: "Cross is a pioneer in the traffic industry. We are now able to provide a complete solution for smart city customers in order to improve urban mobility."
