The Haryana Urban Development Authority in India has installed a new traffic management system in three locations to reduce road congestion.

The new intelligent traffic system (ITS) system, implemented in the state of Haryana, involves a combination of various devices like video cameras, sensors, screens and other computerised units, which provide real-time information of traffic conditions.

ITS ensures real-time connectivity with the traffic control room and could offer possible solutions to help traffic flow through an intersection.

The system’s advanced vehicle detecting sensors can count the number of vehicles at one intersection and automatically adjust the traffic signals according to the changing traffic needs.

It also includes hi-speed traffic enforcement cameras and automatic number plate recognition systems, which can detect traffic regulation violators, according to the Times of India.
