Antenne Bayern radio station has collaborated with Bosch to integrate the latter’s Cloud-based wrong-way driver warning function into its app.

The integration will alert all Antenne Bayern radio listeners such as drivers and other road users about wrong-way driving, thereby reducing road accidents.

On average, wrong-way drivers kill 20 people every year in Germany.

Drivers using exit lanes to enter the freeway are estimated to cause nearly 46% of wrong-way accidents.

Through its app, the nation-wide radio station Antenne Bayern can now alert its listeners throughout the country of all hazardous situations caused by wrong-way drivers.

Robert Bosch CEO Dr Volkmar Denner said: “Bosch is working hard to make mobility emissions-free, stress-free, and – not least of all – accident-free.

“Our wrong-way driver warning system shows that we take a comprehensive approach to road safety – and we don’t restrict our thinking to the vehicles only.”

“Our wrong-way driver warning system shows that we take a comprehensive approach to road safety – and we don’t restrict our thinking to the vehicles only.

“We can alert a lot of road users to wrong-way drivers in time. I’m convinced our partnership will prevent fatal accidents.”

In the new system, the wrong-way driver warning solution automatically transmits anonymised movement data to the Bosch Cloud whenever a car approaches a freeway exit or entrance.

Bosch technology then compares the car’s current direction of travel with permitted directions stored in the database. If they do not match, the system will alert the wrong-way driver.

With Cloud connectivity, the app can issue alerts within seconds to the wrong-way driver, as well as other cars on the same and adjacent lanes.

Cloud communication will be terminated after the right-way driver leaves the at-risk zone.
