“What we are seeing today is the technology and automotive industries coming together to create services that will elevate the driving experience for billions.

"What we are seeing today is the technology and automotive industries coming together to create services that will elevate the driving experience for billions."

“This is also an important milestone for our Open Location Platform, which is ready to serve as the nerve center for future autonomous vehicles, smart cities and intelligent transportation systems.”

Ahead of the Paris Motor Show, HERE presented how its new Open Location Platform intends to harness real-time data generated by the on-board sensors of connected vehicles to create a live depiction of the road environment.

Using this service, drivers will be able to access road view, which offers information on traffic conditions, potential road hazards, traffic signage and on-street parking at high quality.

The objective of this service is to provide drivers with precise and timely information with which they can make better driving decisions.

HERE intends to roll out this service for commercial use for customers within and outside automotive industry from the first half of next year.

HERE also plans to start source sensor data from automotive companies such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars. It intends to include data from other brands at a later stage.

By sharing the data, the participating brands are providing a platform for superior services for drivers and reduce traffic congestion as well as reducing traffic accidents.

HERE anticipates that its services will also support the automotive industry's broader market introduction of advanced driver assisted systems and, later, autonomous driving solutions.
