The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has awarded two contracts involving the development of Phases 3 and 4 of roads leading to the Expo 2020 Project.

The total construction costs of these two phases will be AED1.3bn ($353m).

Under the overall project, two intersections of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Jebel Ali Lehbab Street and Al Yalayes Street will be improved and two flyovers would be built at the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street near the Dubai Investment Park.

The Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will also be widened from two to five lanes in both directions.

RTA director-general and Board of Executive Directors chairman Mattar Al Tayer said: “The improvement of roads network leading to Expo is one of the biggest road projects currently undertaken by the RTA to meet the needs of hosting Expo 2020 in Dubai.

“The improvement of roads network leading to Expo is one of the biggest road projects currently undertaken by the RTA to meet the needs of hosting Expo 2020 in Dubai.”

“Due to the immense nature of the project, it had been divided into six phases to ensure the delivery of all works on the prescribed timeline, well before the opening of Expo.”

As part of Phase 3 of the project, the intersection of Jebel Ali Lehbab Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be converted into a flyover to ensure seamless traffic movement in all directions.

Project works during this phase will involve the construction of 3km of bridges. The total length of roads to be built is 6.5km.

Under Phase 4, a 4.6km-long section of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be widened from two to five lanes.

The intersection of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Al Yalayes Street will be transformed into a flyover, which involves the addition of four bridges.
