Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the construction of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 network.

The overall length of the road would be 77km under the contract, consisting of 68km of single roads and 9km of collector dual carriageways.

The contract forms part of the implementation of a five-year plan to build internal roads in several residential areas of Dubai.

RTA board of executive directors director-general and chairman Mattar Al Tayer said: “The construction of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 stems from RTA’s commitment towards improving the infrastructure of Dubai’s residential areas, which covers road construction, street lighting and rainwater drainage systems.

“The construction of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 stems from RTA’s commitment towards improving the infrastructure of Dubai’s residential areas.”

“Such works are a necessity due to the demographic and urban expansion, and contributes to the general welfare and happiness of the people in the Emirate.”

The new project also covers related infrastructure works, such as rainwater drainage network, improvements to the electricity and water networks, and street lighting.

Al Tayer added that RTA is also moving ahead with the construction of internal roads for the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Est project at Oud Al Mateena 1, which aims to provide safe and smooth access to and from adjacent areas.

The project is scheduled to be concluded during the second quarter of 2019 and will include installation of street lights and pedestrian walkways.

RTA is also currently undertaking the initial phase of the internal roads project at Sama Al Jaddaf. This project will improve the local road network by connecting it to surrounding roads, such as Al Khail Road to the south and Sheikh Rashid Street to the north.

Construction of a number of junctions, including two signalised junctions and street lighting works are also being planned under the project.
