Eleven car parks in Richmondshire District Council are to have new pay-and-display parking machines that will only accept coins but have the capability to be upgraded to bank note and card acceptance in the future.
Feedback from a three-month survey found that residents generally did not want to pay for their parking with a credit card at the present time.
Richmondshire Council has placed an order with Metric Parking for their advanced Aura Elites in both mains and solar configuration, as well as five new Accent tops to be installed on existing Autoslot pedestals.
The council chose to invest in new machines rather than take the option to upgrade the aging stock to accept the new coinage.
The existing tariff is 50p for half an hour and £4 for ten hours.
