Miraculously, no-one was hurt when this runaway truck [pictured] careered downhill into a public car park and ploughed into a Metric Aura Elite pay and display parking machine.
The solar-powered machine could have saved the truck from causing more serious damage in Tremworth car park, St. Ives, Cornwall.
The machine, which had only been installed two weeks earlier, buckled at the base and couldn’t be re-set into the ground. Other parts of the machine have been salvaged for repairs.
It is understood that the handbrake failed on the truck, which was collecting rubble from excavation works on the hill. The machine has been replaced with a similar Metric Elite.
