According to the European Commission on road safety "crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists occur frequently at facilities designed for pedestrians and cyclists such as pedestrian crossings (…). This means that these facilities are not necessarily good enough to prevent crashes."
In order to improve the safety of pedestrians at crosswalks, SERNIS developed an Intelligent Pedestrian Crossing System SR-IPCS that detects pedestrians at crosswalks by real time image processing, managing automatically the activation of a set of warnings through vertical signs and road studs to alert drivers in a safe and effective way. It is also particularly effective at detecting pedestrians in blinding spots, specially in adverse weather conditions.
The device is reliable day and night, with low power consumption by solar or electric energy.
This SERNIS’ intelligent system is a strong contribution to reduce the number of crashes and decrease injury severity on the roads.
