For a period of four years and five months, the consortium comprised by Viapass (Cobro Electrónico de Peaje, SA de CV) and SICE will be responsible for the management of the electronic toll collection subject to performance standards in the highway network granted to Mexico’s National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin).
With this service, the users of this network of highways will benefit from service improvements, reflected in shorter crossing times for passengers and freight transport. Additionally, this service will result in a very important saving for Fonadin that will strengthen its assets.
The electronic toll collection, which is the alternative for the electronic payment of tolls that speeds up the crossing in the toll plazas, reduces operating costs, as well as the risks associated with cash handling, represents practically 28% of the total capacity that circulates through the Fonadin network; 111,591,772 electronic toll transactions in 2017.
The main objectives of the new operating model seek to provide an efficient, safe and flexible service that is beneficial mainly to the user of the roads granted to the National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin), promote the interoperability of electronic toll systems, promote greater competition, technological modernization and conciliation of procedures and information among the operators of the electronic tolls, and preserve and increase the assets of the Fund, with lower expenses, greater opportunity of the deposits and a better use of the installed infrastructure.
Banobras, as Fonadin’s fiduciary, awarded the corresponding bid to the consortium after receiving the highest score in terms of the evaluation established in the request for proposals, which also offered the lowest cost.
With this award, SICE consolidates its position in the toll sector in Mexico, complementing its toll collection operation services with its experience in the implementation of toll systems, electronic toll systems, ITS and communications with the main operators of highways throughout the country.
