CPB Contractors Samsung John Holland Joint Venture has awarded SICE with the contract to the design, construction, installation and commissioning of SICE’s proprietary Operation Management Control System (OMCS) SIDERA for WestConnex, Stage 1 in Sydney.
WestConnex is the largest transport infrastructure project in Australia. WestConnex will provide high-quality motorway connections from western Sydney to Sydney Airport and Port Botany, supporting Sydney’s forecast growth in population and employment along these corridors. WestConnex will transform urban travel, providing better connectivity between key employment hubs and local communities. By easing traffic congestion, WestConnex will improve travel time reliability for bus services, business, personal and local freight.
SIDERA will manage both the M4 Motorway Stage 1A, which involves widening the existing M4 Motorway of approximately 10km, as well as the new M4 East Motorway Stage 1B, which new twin tunnels approximately 5.5km in length will be constructed underground. The M4 East OMCS being delivered by SICE will be capable of being integrated into a single consistent control system, WestConnex OMCS (WOMCS) in the future.. The WOMCS will be built to carry the operation of the entire WestConnex project.
SICE is also responsible for the design of the following systems for the M4 East (Stage 1B):
- OMCS hardware and software
- C2C interface between SIDERA and Transport Management Centre (TMC)
- Communication network
- PLC network
- Vehicle detection
- Variable message signs
- Lane usage signs
- Variable speed limit signs
