Skanska has formed a joint venture (JV) with Stacy and Witbeck to sign a $191m contract with the City of Los Angeles for the construction of a new Sixth Street Viaduct.

The bridge, also known as ‘The Ribbon of Light’, will replace the original bridge, which was pulled down by the same contractors under a separate contract. The new viaduct will be opened in 2020.

The Republics of Benin and Togo will receive a $40.8m loan from the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) for the upgrade of Lomé–Cotonou Road into a 30km, four-lane road that connects the capital cities of the two countries.

"The new viaduct will be opened in 2020."

The upgrade project, which is aimed at improving the transport logistical chain and traffic in the two countries, is estimated to cost $187.1m. It is jointly supported by the African Development Fund (ADF), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the European Union (EU), the West African Development Bank (BOAD), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), and the Government of Togo.

The UK Government, as a part of its £15bn ($18.49bn) investment programme to improve strategic roads in the country, will provide £1.1bn ($1.35bn) towards the improvement of certain roads in the East of England.

The fund will be used for the widening of the A12 road between Chelmsford and the A120 junction in Essex and also for the improvements on the A428 road between Caxton Gibbet roundabout in Cambridgeshire and the Black Cat roundabout in Bedfordshire. The improvements will ease the traffic congestion and improve the safety of the roads.
