Metro Pacific Tollways Development Corporation (MPTC) has secured a construction contract for the PHP27.9bn ($592m) Cebu-Cordova Bridge project in the Phillippines.

The construction work is expected to commence in 2017 and likely to be completed by 2020.

According to the Notices of Award from the city of Cebu and the municipality of Cordova, MPTC will fund, design, construct, implement, operate and maintain the 8.25km tollroad, reported Mb.com.ph.

"An unincorporated joint venture between MPTC, Cebu city and the municipality of Cordova will be created for the project."

Due to lack of proposals from other companies, the deadline to challenge the proposal ended on 7 December.

An unincorporated joint venture between MPTC, Cebu city and the municipality of Cordova will be created for the project.

The Cebu-Cordova Bridge project is expeced to ease traffic in Marcelo Fernan Bridge and Mandaue Bridge, which are between Mactan and Cebu.

For the project, MPTC will construct connections to Cebu city and Cordova, the primary bridge structure, toll facilities, causeway, roadway and viaduct.

This bridge is situated around 7.5km south of the Mandaue Bridge and will begin from the Cebu South Coastal Road, crossing the Mactan channel and Mactan Island.

About 60% of the Philippines' toll road projects are handled by the Metro Pacific group. It operates Manila Cavite Expressway, North Luzon Expressway and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway, reported Thestandard.com.ph.
