Expressway

Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has awarded seven contracts under the Expressway programme and the Roads & Infrastructure Projects in Local Areas Programme (LRDP), worth QAR10.18bn ($2.79bn).

Ashgal has awarded three projects, valued at QAR7.71bn ($2.11bn) under the Expressway Programme. Two were for the Al-Rayyan road.

These two contracts include construction and development of roads from west of the New Rayyan Roundabout to the east of Bani Hajer Roundabout, as well as the construction and development of roads from west of the Olympic Roundabout to west of the New Al Rayyan Roundabout.

The third project involves design and construction of phase 1 of the New Orbital Highway, and covers 45km of the 180km long highway.

Ashgal also awarded four contracts for the construction of Roads and infrastructure in local areas, valued at QAR2.4bn ($676.9m).

These projects include the development of infrastructure for the Commercial Street in Al-Khor, the first package for the infrastructure development of the Industrial Area, the first package for the construction of infrastructure for North and East Al Kheesa (Rawdat Al Hamama area).

The projects also include the first package for the development of infrastructure in Rawdat Abal Heeran area.

Ashgal’s contracts under LRDP follows the signing of the ‘framework contracts strategy’ in December 2013.

The framework features a complete pre-qualification process for contractors, to be implemented across all of the over-200 LRDP projects.

The authority awarded ten design and construction contracts of Expressway projects in June 2013, including eight design and construction supervision contracts for 24 new Expressway projects across Qatar and two construction contracts for the East-West Corridor project.
