Virginia’s Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) in the US has awarded five contracts new construction and paving projects across the state.

The new projects have a combinged value of $72.7m, and will improve traffic flow and safety, and extend the life of the transportation infrastructure.

The CTB has awarded a $30.8m design-build contract to Corman Construction Company to construct a new four-lane bridge on Fall Hill Avenue over Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg.

"The improvements are scheduled to be completed in early 2017."

The contract also includes widening of Fall Hill Avenue to a four-lane divided highway from Carl Silver Parkway to a roundabout adjacent to the Fall Hill Avenue bridge over the Rappahannock Canal at the proposed intersection of Fall Hill Avenue, along with the extension of Mary Washington Boulevard.

Corman Construction will also extend Mary Washington Boulevard from its terminus north of US 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) to the roundabout intersection with Fall Hill Avenue new the Rappahannock Canal bridge.

The improvements are scheduled to be completed in early 2017, and will provide a continuous four-lane corridor from the intersection of US 1 and Mary Washington Boulevard to the Carl Silver Parkway in the Central Park commercial district.

Other projects awarded by the CTB include the $6.3m Park Phase Bicycle Trail project, a $21m project to rehabilitate Interstate 295 pavement, a $8.4m contract to replace superstructure and approaches on Route 54 over Interstate 95 in Hanover County.

The CTB has awarded a contract worth $6.2m to American Infrastructure-VA for various repaving projects in Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.
