Swarco Traffic has received a contract from Cambridgeshire County Council in England to install an advanced traffic guidance and parking solution in and around Cambridge.

The new technology is expected to minimise traffic congestion and improve the area’s air quality.

Swarco will install 17 full-colour RGB Matrix signs at strategic locations across Cambridge and its surrounding areas.

The signs will be programmed to provide traffic information and images to drivers.

They are compatible with Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC) and will be controlled through Swarco’s intelligent Zephyr solution.

Zephyr will enable traffic controllers to send messages remotely, at any time. They can monitor the LED signs and luminance sensors and check for power failures.

Swarco Traffic head of sales Derek Williamson said: “We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality traffic signs and intelligent solutions in the industry, as well as tailoring these to meet the needs of our customers.” Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Under the agreement, Swarco will also install 11 count control cabinets around Cambridge’s Park & Ride sites to reduce on-street congestion.

Cambridgeshire County Council Real Time Passenger Information project officer Zaneta Adamczyk said: “We needed to upgrade the systems in place with a more flexible and accurate solution with better functionality and communications.

“The new signs will enable us to ensure that drivers can find car parking space availability with ease, reducing time spent on the road, which will help us to reduce congestion and consequently improve the air quality throughout the city and surrounding areas.”
