The Government of Sharjah has announced AED5bn ($1bn) for infrastructure projects in 2009-2010.

The projects include development of main and internal roads, bridges and tunnels in the UAE city.

Expansion of the 10.8km Al Badee road into four lanes has also been planned as part of the initiative, according to business24-7.ae.

Sharjah Public Works Department (SPWD) has approved the construction of 13 pedestrian crossings, including bridges, subways and humps.

SPWD, director-general, Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr bin Humaid Al Qasimi said Dh100m ($27m) has been allocated for maintenance of internal streets alone.
