The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) has completed the development of its integrated transport information and navigation system (i-TINS), designed to improve travel experience.

i-TINS gathers real-time data from different sources, including road side systems such as traffic counting systems and travel time measurement systems and central sub-systems such as taxi and bus GPS-based tracking systems.

The data is analysed, processed and made available to the travellers, enabling them to estimate their travel times and know about the traffic incidents and congestions.

"The DoT has designed, developed, installed and tested the system to ensure optimal performance."

The system is also capable of providing public transport users with the exact locations of bus stations and stops, real-time bus schedules, ferry routes and timetables.

i-TINS’ Darb mobile app delivers a variety of other smart services, including taxi booking, payment for parking, and notifications on traffic incidents; Darb will be available free-of-cost for IOS and Android users.

DoT integrated intelligent transportation systems (IITS) division director Salah Mohamed Al Marzouqi said: "The main objective of the i-TINS project is to make available to the public reliable, interactive and real-time information on the road network and public transport modes.

"The DoT has designed, developed, installed and tested the system to ensure optimal performance, and we are now training a team of UAE nationals to operate and manage the system."

Through strategic partnerships, i-TINS can also be integrated with other advanced information and service systems such as using the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre’s (ADSIC) latest geographic information system (GIS) maps; and Abu Dhabi Airports information system.

The DoT is currently coordinating with navigation service providers to integrate i-TINS information with the in-car satellite navigation systems.
