Axis Communications, a provider of network video, has introduced IP cameras featuring an i-CS lens.

The lens technology product was developed by Axis Communications and Japanese-based lens manufacturing company Computar (CBC Group).

The new product exchanges information such as geometrical distortion and the exact position of its zoom, focus and iris opening.

Axis Communications vice president for Americas Fredrik Nilsson said: "The new i-CS lens technology is based on an open protocol standard allowing the lens and camera to communicate.

"The release of the i-CS lens will truly help drive the industry forward.

"Additionally, the release of the new indoor AXIS Q1615 Mk II and the outdoor AXIS Q1615-E Mk II shows that we’re taking a step toward the future of the industry."

"Axis Communications, a provider of network video, has introduced IP cameras featuring an i-CS lens."

As the i-CS lens is equipped with several motors, zoom, focus and iris opening can be remotely adjusted.

Due to information exchange between i-CS lens and the camera, it is easier to format electronic image stabilisation (EIS) and barrel distortion correction (BDC), reducing the time needed for setup.

The indoor AXIS Q1615 Mk II and the outdoor AXIS Q1615-E Mk II feature scene profiles, which allows the installer to choose between traffic overview, forensic or live profile.

Both the cameras offer HDTV 1080p video at frame rates of up to 50 / 60 fps or HDTV 720p video at frame rates of up to 100 / 120 fps. This enables detailed video capture of fast moving objects.
