Cubic Transportation Systems, a unit of Cubic Corporation, has launched NextTraffic, a next-generation transportation and traffic management solution that uses Microsoft’s Azure Cloud.

A scalable cloud-enabled platform, NextTraffic enables collection, processing, monitoring, controlling and management of all traffic elements on several computer networks in one source, thereby enabling control of surface transportation and better utilisation of roads and networks.

This system supports data collection, processing and sharing of information to travellers and cities.

"Smart city transportation solutions have the potential to improve traffic patterns, reduce congestion, contribute to economic growth and revolutionise city planning."

It is a flexible solution that can work with customer’s existing infrastructure and through the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Cubic Transportation Systems vice president of strategy Boris Karsch said: "This collaboration allows us to utilise the full power of Microsoft technology to improve our solutions today and develop future-proof, scalable solutions for tomorrow.

"This strategic relationship will be beneficial for both companies as we build on CTS’ expertise in payment and information systems for public transportation and traffic management and Microsoft’s world-leading enterprise solutions."

Microsoft worldwide public sector corporate vice president Toni Townes-Whitley said: "Smart city transportation solutions have the potential to improve traffic patterns, reduce congestion, contribute to economic growth and revolutionise city planning, all while improving the quality of transportation around the city.

"We’re excited to work with Cubic, a domain expert in its field, to develop new transportation solutions for our customers."
