Road and bridge construction company Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting (GTGC) has secured a $285m road contract in Oman.

The contract has been awarded to the UAE-based company to carry out the initial part of Adam-Thumrait road dualisation project, for which the bid amount was OMR110m ($285m).

As part of the project, the existing single carriageway will be upgraded into a four-lane dual carriageway, reports the Times of Oman.

The second part of the project, which will cost OMR91.04m ($236m), has been awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company.

"The Barka-Nakhal dual carriageway project was awarded by the Oman Ministry of Transport and Communications for OMR64.96m ($168m)."

Said to be 120km-long, sources said that the construction for each segment of the dualisation project is expected to take three-and-a-half years, excluding a two-month mobilisation period.

For the initial phase, a total of 17 contracting firms had submitted bids and only 13 were in the race for the second phase of the Adam-Thumrait dualisation project.

The 715km-long carriageway between the towns of Adam and Thumrait has been divided into different segments.

The two initial parts have a combined length of 240km, while the remaining 475km is divided into four packages for tendering at a later stage.

A report noted that the Barka-Nakhal dual carriageway project was awarded by the Oman Ministry of Transport and Communications for OMR64.96m ($168m).
