Siemens Mobility, a provider of transportation technology and smart systems, has joined Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Alliance, a public-private partnership launched by ERTICO-ITS Europe, for developing and deploying new transport systems.

As a member of the Alliance, Siemens will be working with other group members coming from various industrial sectors such as public administration, research and education, towards global deployment of MaaS.

According to the company, MaaS initiatives have been planned across all European countries for developing a shared work programme among users, transport operators and service providers.

"With our SiMobility Connect platform and other solutions, we enable operators to set-up the technological base for the realisation of MaaS, and the implementation of sustainable business models."

The initiatives intend to create an open market and full deployment of MaaS services.

Filippo Logi of Siemens Mobility was quoted by traffictechnologytoday.com as saying: “MaaS is a vision we believe in, and which is expected to have a significant impact on the future of transportation.

“Since our participation in the Open Mobility initiative in Berlin, and through multiple project activities in several European cities to create the technical, legal and commercial prerequisites for setting up MaaS operations, we are one of the leading international providers of smart solutions for combined mobility.

“With our SiMobility Connect platform and other solutions, we enable operators to set-up the technological base for the realisation of MaaS, and the implementation of sustainable business models.”

MaaS environment combines offerings provided by various transport services such as taxis, shared bikes, and demand-responsive transport.

The new transport model aims to reduce the usage of car ownership and encourage commuters to use a wide range of transport alternatives that are packaged and tailored according to user preferences, and can be paid for based on actual usage.
