PORR has secured the agreement to design and build Lot 1 of the motorway stretching 13.17km from Sibiu to Pitesti in Romania.

Under the €129m ($165m), PORR will design and construct the four-lane section road in Romania.

Time allocated for the design phase is 12 months.

Construction is expected to start in 2020. The project is scheduled to be complete in 36 months.

The motorway is being constructed for Compania Nationala de Administrare a Infrastructurii Rutiere SA Romania (CNAIR).

“This latest road construction tender is already the third large-scale motorway construction project realised by PORR in Romania.”

PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “This latest road construction tender is already the third large-scale motorway construction project realised by PORR in Romania. Our lot is the first section of the route from Sibiu to Pitesti, an East-West link of critical importance to Romania in terms of traffic.”

Contract work includes erection of 12 bridge structures, including a 650m-long viaduct over a valley as a part of both motorways and bridge over the road.

The motorway from Sibiu to Pitesti will be located at Trans European Rhine-Danube Corridor, which will pave a link to the Black Sea.

The motorway is also the first to connect Transylvania with Walachia via Carpathia.

In January 2018, PORR secured a €360m contract from the North Rhine-Westphalia Roads Agency to build a new Rhine bridge in Leverkusen, Germany.
