A project has concluded to relieve congestion and improve pedestrian safety at the two intersections of Route 404 (Ridge Road) at Hard Road and Five Mile Line Road in Webster, Monroe County in New York, US.

Under the $3m project, new sidewalks and pedestrian crossings to three additional intersections were built along Ridge Road at Holt Road, Black Cherry Boulevard and Webster Commons Boulevard.

The intersections connect residents to many commercial businesses on the heavily congested stretch of Ridge Road, which also comprises Webster Schroeder High School and Webster Town Hall.

“Initially, work commenced in August last year when a new right turn lane, bicycle lanes and a westbound sidewalk were installed at the intersection of Ridge Road and Hard Road.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: “This project is the latest example of how New York is investing more in our roads and bridges than ever before to ease traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian safety.

“A reliable transportation network is critical to supporting regional economies, and with this project, we are once again demonstrating our commitment to moving the Finger Lakes forward.”

Initially, work commenced in August last year when a new right turn lane, bicycle lanes and a westbound sidewalk were installed at the intersection of Ridge Road and Hard Road.

The intersection was also upgraded with new traffic signals with protected left turn arrows in all directions. The profile of the roadway was also changed.

Construction then started at Ridge Road and Five Mile Line Road, which included new ADA-compliant sidewalks, bicycle lanes, extended left turn lanes and new right turn lanes.

As part of the project, crosswalks at the intersection were also upgraded with new pedestrian signals that included countdown timers.
