Cubic Transportation Systems has signed a letter of intent with Canada-based Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) for worldwide collaboration to deliver transit and municipal parking solutions leveraging technology developed by CPA.

The CPA has developed the ParkPlus System new parking solution for on and off-street applications by collaborating technologies such as license plate recognition, real-time wireless, solar-powered smart pay meters and mobile devices.

According to Cubic, the integration has led to better management of parking availability, in addition to introducing multiple payment methods and easier, effective implementation of enforcement services.

"This agreement is a significant step forward for Cubic in expanding our NextCity strategy."

The agreement will also allow Cubic to integrate ParkPlus technology with its payment processing facilities, providing a simpler customer experience to the users with the ability to manage a single transportation account for transit and parking.

Parking and transit payments can also be made with a common smart card or mobile app.

The customer-focused ParkPlus solution allows drivers to register their licence plates with their payment account or pay at the meter and supports both the customer-facing and enforcement side of parking management.

The technology also streamlines operations to enable enforcement officers to capture violations automatically, recognise which license plate owners have not paid to park in a specific location and according issue tickets.

Cubic Transportation Systems strategic initiatives vice-president David deKozan said: "This agreement is a significant step forward for Cubic in expanding our NextCity strategy."
