Taiwanese manufacturer of traffic cameras Vivotek has launched its first dedicated licence plate capture solution, the IP816A-LPC.

The new IP816A-LPC model is a professional 2MP box network camera equipped with IR (infrared) LEDs and is specially designed for 24/7 day and night traffic monitoring environments, such as highways, city streets, bridges, tunnels and parking lots.

As part of its continued aim to offer the market with network cameras of superior image quality, the company has dedicated considerable resources to increase its portfolio with the addition of a license plate recognition (LPR) system.

"The key challenge for installers is how to optimally capture fast-moving vehicle plates at all times."

The new IP816A-LPC camera is designed to capture vehicles, with both reflective and non-reflective licence plates, travelling at speeds of up to 80km/h.

The camera is designed to provide wide coverage views of dual-lane traffic and optimise installation efficiency.

The IP816A-LPC is also integrated with the Overseer LPR software developed by Video Internet Technologies (VIT), a LPR software designer and supplier.

Vivotek marketing communication department director Tim Su said: "Today, video surveillance plays a vital role in traffic monitoring. The key challenge for installers is how to optimally capture fast-moving vehicle plates at all times."

Using the high-quality of the company’s existing IP816A-HP traffic camera and equipping it with two external long-range IR LEDs and a built-in IR pass filter, the IP816A-LPC can automatically generate sufficient illumination and decrease reflective glare to capture license plates clearly, even in difficult lighting conditions.

The camera also uses the company’s other advanced technologies such as WDR Pro, 3D Noise Reduction, remote back focus (RBF), electronic image stabilisation (EIS), snapshot focus, configurable shutter speed, P-iris lens and IR illumination control, to ensure optimal image quality at all times and in all conditions.

In addition, the IP816A-LPC is also equipped with IP66-rated and IK10-rated housing to enable the camera’s body and IR LEDs to withstand rain and dust, and to protect against vandalism or tampering.
