Dubai’s Government said it plans to spend US$1.03bn on improving its existing road infrastructure and completing 11 bridges in the first half of this year.

The works include widening of Dubai Bypass to the Dubai-Al Ain Road’s Al Rawiyya interchange from Sharjah, upgrading it with lighting works, safety barriers, steel rails, road shoulders and median strips according to a report by World Highways.

The Al Mina Road will also be widened and construction work will take place at the Beirut-Al Nahdah multi-level interchange. The Safouh Road Improvement and beautification of the Al Nahdah 2 are also included in the plans.

Work on Jumeirah Lakes interchange will start in May, reconstruction work of the Murdiff Bridge and Financial Center Road’s upper deck project in June.

However, the extension of 13km Parallel Roads up to Meydan Road will not be complete until the end of 2009.
