Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 86% of works under the first contract of the improvement of Latifa bint Hamdan and Umm Al-Sheef streets project.

The two-phase project is being developed at an investment of AED800m ($218m). It links Jumeirah with Al Khail Road and the Parallel Roads.

Phase one of the project is on course to be completed in the final quarter of 2018, while phase two is 60% complete and scheduled for completion during the first quarter of next year.

“The project would also accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and ease the mobility in various parts of Dubai.”

The project includes the construction of two-level bridges and roads from Umm Al-Sheef St to Al Wasl St and SZR and up to Latifa bint Hamdan St.

Work also involves the development of the Al Qouz entrances, as well as several development projects, including improvements spanning 3km from Al Khail Road to the Interchange of Al Khail Road.

Roads and Transport Authority director-general Mattar Al Tayer said: “The project is undertaken in response to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to carry on with the construction of roads and transportation projects to cope with the upswing and demographic expansion of Dubai and the drive to bring happiness to people.

“The project would also accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and ease the mobility in various parts of Dubai. It also complements RTA’s strategic plan for improving vertical traffic corridors such as the Airport Street, Tripoli Street, Al Yalayes Street and Al Asayel Street.”

The contractor has already completed construction works in all bridges.
