Information Logistics (ILog) has unveiled a new emergency alert service for transportation agencies called Highway Emergency Link Platform (HELP) to identify and address highway emergencies.

Developed in collaboration with Inrix, HELP is expected to enable agencies to contact and communicate with drivers during emergencies or when conventional communication systems are unavailable.

ILog president Mary Farrell said: “This two-way communication service paints a more accurate picture of the situation for both the traveller and for the agency.

“HELP aids with planning and executing a better incident response.”

Developed on ILog’s incident response and information system, HELP utilises Inrix services to provide real-time status of the roadway and weather-related road conditions.

“All transportation officials using the HELP solution need to provide a title, event number, and a brief description with an outline of the impacted area.”

In addition to providing data on roadway emergencies, the solution can be used for traffic management and to transmit key information to drivers and incident response teams.

All important information can be forwarded by text message and automated phone call without the need of a separate application.

Furthermore, it procures first-hand information from incident-affected drivers and can generate post-event analysis automatically.

Inrix public sector vice-president Rick Schuman said: “HELP provides a new and innovative solution to detect and manage roadway no matter where you are.

“It is the first nation-wide service targeting travellers who are being impacted by or who are approaching a large-scale emergency.”

The details will automatically create a custom website with voice and text response systems where motorists in the respective region will be notified to use HELP through a wireless emergency alert.
