Iteris has secured a $19.5m contract from the US Federal Highway Administration for the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) reference architecture programme.

Under the five-year indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity contract, Iteris will provide continued development, evolution and deployment support for the programme.

Iteris will support the evolution of the Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT) content to reflect changes in ITS and connected automated vehicle (CAV) developments.

The programme has been developed to support statewide and regional ITS planning and deployment to promote interoperability and CAV preparedness by holding workshops, training and offering technical assistance.

“With the integration of two architectures into ARC-IT, stakeholders will be able to see the links between their ITS and CAV technologies.”

The agreement reflects Iteris’ continuous role as an advisor to the US Department of Transportation.

Iteris Transportation Systems senior vice-president and general manager Ramin Massoumi said: “The ITS architecture programme has been a vital and constantly evolving reference for ITS, and automated vehicle and connectivity projects since its release over 20 years ago.

“Iteris is honoured to continue providing the expertise required to support the US Department of Transportation’s efforts to improve safety and mobility.”

For more than two decades, Iteris has led the development and evolution of the US ITS architecture reference. The company initiated the Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture in 2012.

With the integration of two architectures into ARC-IT, stakeholders will be able to see the links between their ITS and CAV technologies.

This will further facilitate integration and interoperability discussions as they plan and implement ITS and CAV projects.

Iteris will lead the core team of Ice & Associates and Consystec, as well as additional programme team members, including Trevilon and Booz Allen Hamilton.
