The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDoT) has appointed WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff (WSP|PB) as the prime consultant to design and install next phase of intelligent transportation system (ITS) in Michigan’s University Region.

The contract covers planning, designing and development of new CCTV cameras, and installation of dynamic message signs, as well as vehicle detection systems across the state's university region.

WSP|PB will also assist MDoT’s staff in preparing conceptual designs, final plans, specifications and estimates and prioritising locations for deployment of ITS infrastructure in the area.

Following the design process, which will be completed later this year, WSP will help in procurement, installation, as well as integration of proposed ITS equipment.

BMD Constructions has secured a road development contract from Queensland Government to duplicate a 3km stretch between Gollogly and Allambie lanes on Riverway Drive in Townville city, Australia. 

Works on the project will begin towards the end of the month, intended to reduce congestion, boost safety and improve travel times. 

São Paulo Government has announced Abertis, a Spanish infrastructure firm, as the winner of the Rodovias dos Calçados (Itaparonga-Franca) concession for a 30-year period until 2047. 

Abertis has won the contract through its Brazilian subsidiary, Arteris.

Under the concession contract, Arteris will manage 403km section of the highway in addition to the 317km segment, which is being operated by its subsidiary, Autovias. This brings the total length of the highway managed by the group to 720km.

The Welsh Government has selected Aecom to design the third Menai bridge to be constructed over the Menai Strait sea channel in Wales, UK.

Aecom will work with its sub-consultants, Knight Architects and Richards, Moorehead & Laing to develop initial designs for a bridge crossing that will connect Anglesey with mainland Wales.

The contractual scope includes bridge and highway engineering, transport planning, traffic modelling and environmental and ecology consultancy services. Aecom will also review the potential impact of the proposed scheme on two historic bridges.

The Nevada Department of Transportation has awarded a $33m construction manager at risk (CMAR) contract to Granite Construction for construction of State Route 28 Shared Use Path in Incline Village, Nevada, US.

Granite will build three miles of shared use path adjacent to State Route 28 along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe, from the Ponderosa Ranch to Sand Harbor State Park.

The company will also construct six short bridges, excavate 30,000 cubic yards of roadway, and build eight sculpted concrete walls, 16 vista points, and a new parking lot. In addition, the firm will install drainage structures, storm drainpipe, curbs/gutters and fibre-optic conduit.
