Scotland’s Glasgow City Council and West Dunbartonshire Council have awarded a joint five-year contract to Siemens to maintain roadside traffic control and information equipment in a fault-free condition and promptly respond to and rectify any issues.

The contract includes the provision of associated ancillary support services, as well as the supply of works and services to support the councils’ traffic control operation, and periodical planned signal and optical maintenance.

"The decision to select Siemens was based on a competitive combination of quality, cost, proven competence and capability."

It represents one of the largest contract renewals of its kind, covering equipment at more than 500 traffic signal intersections and 400 pedestrian crossing facilities.

Work will include providing full service across the agreed emergency, urgent and non-urgent fault category regarding response and repair times, and a re-measurable fully encompassing schedule of rates for equipment supply, installation and civil engineering works and rate options for traffic signal design services.

Siemens northern regional manager Tony Ellis said: "The decision to select Siemens was based on a competitive combination of quality, cost, proven competence and capability.

"For the past five years, Siemens has provided a high-level of service and support in terms of the effective delivery of the contract requirements."

The deal will see Siemens carry out routine maintenance inspections and lamp changes to ensure they adhere to current standards.
