Google-owned navigation app Waze has introduced a software development kit (SDK), which will enable third-party transport app developers to add Waze features.

With 50 million active users, the app will permit ride-sharing partners include Waze data and other features into their own apps, thereby making journeys much easier and faster.

"The SDK launch effectively adds hundreds of thousands of professional drivers to the 50 million users already contributing data to our map, greatly amplifying the amount of insight we have."

An Israel-based navigation application company, Waze had invited its first group of partners from across the globe at the launch of the Waze Transport SDK.

The first companies to partner with Google-owned Waze’s Transport SDK include firms from the US, South America and Europe, such as Lyft, JustPark and 99Taxis.

According to Waze, the partner companies were chosen due to their track records in innovation, customer service, and ability to contribute significant feedback, reported Traffictechnologytoday.

Both mobile developers and consumers are expected to benefit from this facility when a service provider is equipped with the Transport SDK app.

The SDK partners will not only gain access to the Waze navigation tools, but also be able to build new features that will help them improve their apps.

It will soon be available for free to all consumers worldwide.

Waze head of business development Amir Mirzaee was quoted by Traffictechnologytoday as saying: "The SDK launch effectively adds hundreds of thousands of professional drivers to the 50 million users already contributing data to our map, greatly amplifying the amount of insight we have."

Last December, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in the US had entered into a data-sharing partnership with Waze, which provided real-time traffic data to the state’s drivers through Waze’s crowdsourced navigation app.
