The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has signed a new contract to utilise the Iteris iPeMS (Iteris Performance Measurement System) software platform to manage and evaluate the performance of its intelligent transportation systems across the state.

The new platform combines real-time and historical traffic data from Here Technologies. The new engagement expands UDOT’s previous Iteris iPeMS implementation from 2014 and is subject to annual renewal for up to five years.

With this new service, UDOT will be able to analyse and visualise real-time and historical traffic data.

It will also help the state road operator to calculate and predict the effects of weather on pavement conditions, construction work and infrastructure, thereby facilitating the improvement of roadway mobility and safety.

The service offers real-time maps, real-time traffic congestions, historical trend reports, dynamic route creation, animations and reliability maps.

It also features congestion charts, reports and measures, weather overlays and route summary reports.

“The service offers real-time maps, real-time traffic congestions, historical trend reports, dynamic route creation, animations and reliability maps.”

Utah Department of Transportation traffic mobility engineer Kelly Burns said: “Gaining access to statewide traffic insights via Iteris iPeMS’ easy-to-use interface will make a significant contribution to our goal of reaching zero crashes, injuries and fatalities throughout the state of Utah.

“We intend to use this data to prioritise project needs, measure arterial reliability, automatically detect unusual congestion outside of our transportation management system limits and communicate event-related traffic.”

UDOT will also explore the usage of this solution to measure incident management team benefits.

Iteris Transportation Systems general manager and senior vice-president Ramin Massoumi said: “This comprehensive, statewide expansion of Iteris iPeMS, which now leverages the power of HERE location data and covers arterial roads, as well as freeway networks, underscores UDOT’s commitment to investing in the safety and efficiency of its roadways.”

In North America, the Virginia Department of Transportation, the California Department of Transportation and the City of Toronto use Iteris performance measurement systems to optimise transportation networks.
