Spanish firm Telvent is to install an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system at the Hampton Mainline Toll Plaza on Interstate 95 in the US state of New Hampshire.

The system, the first in the state, is aimed at improving traffic conditions during the peak tourism seasons in the state as well as providing accurate and reliable toll collection.

The two-by-two lane ORT system will allow the Bureau of Turnpikes to track vehicles through all ORT zones and charge toll fares through their E-ZPass accounts.

The system will also allow the bureau to keep a check on toll violators.

The company will install a remote operations and maintenance system to provide integrated video imaging for 24/7 real time sensor data and transaction information, event alerts, notifications and historic playback features.

The €1.5m contract for the system installation has been awarded by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
