The Chennai-Ennore-Manali road improvement project (EMRIP) in Tamil Nadu state of India is expected to be completed by 2013, according to the state government.

The Rs6bn ($119m) project is being implemented through special purpose company Chennai Ennore Port Road, which has been set up by Chennai Port, Ennore Port, National Highway Authority of India and the Tamil Nadu Government.

The project includes the improvement of a 30km road network in north Chennai that connects all the container freight stations (CFS), which handle containers for Chennai port.

So far the construction of 500m-long groynes, which prevent sea erosion, at ten locations has been completedat a cost of Rs240m ($4.7m).

Work has started on the widening of the road to four lanes, improvements on four roads and construction of protective works at three locations, according to business-standard.com.
