Skanska, a global construction company, in a joint venture (JV) with the Danish engineering firm MT Højgaard, has secured a contract from the City of Gothenburg Urban Transport Administration, for constructing the Hisingsbron Bridge over the river Göta älv.

The total value of the contract amounts to SEK2bn ($232m), where Skanska's share is 70%, which is equivalent to SEK1.4bn ($163m).

The project is a turnkey contract and the bridge will be a vertical-lift bridge of steel and concrete.

"The construction of the bridge is slated to begin in January next year and the project is expected to be completed 2022."

Apart from the bridge construction, the project also comprises a facility for tram transportation, new roads and control systems for the bridge and also demolition of the old bridge.

The Danish construction company will be providing steel works including mechanics.

In addition to price, the City of Gothenburg Urban Transport Administration based their selection of contractors on organisation, implementation plan and safety.

The construction of the bridge is slated to begin in January next year and the project is expected to be completed 2022. The project will employ up to 250 people from Skanska.

Skanska Sweden has a workforce of approximately 10,000 employees. Apart from the major construction projects, the company is also involved in residential development sold about 2,200 new homes. It also offers services in public-private partnerships.
