Fuji Electric EV charging station

Fuji Electric Corp. of America is set to introduce a new UL-Certified 25kW DC Quick Charging Station for electric vehicles, which will be available for sale in North America in February 2013.

The new generation of UL-Certified 25kW DC Quick Charging Stations features a slimmer profile, making it suitable for a wider range of applications and site locations.

This release will be the fourth generation of DC Quick Charger for Fuji Electric, which introduced its first model overseas in 2008 and entered the North American market in March 2012.

The charger is compliant with CHAdeMO standards, meeting all requirements for both small and large-scale installations.

It features ChargePoint, which enables users to locate and reserve available stations through ChargePoint mobile phone applications for iPhone and Android, while easily managing the cost of charging.

Fuji Electric Corp. of America EV Systems general manager Larry Butkovich said that over the past five years, the company focused on continually improving the product to adapt to the evolving needs of EV owners and station owners.

"We’ve taken proven technology from our other businesses and applied them in new ways, such as the use of our ultra-reliable power supply and high-speed MOSFETs in our DC Quick Charger," Butkovich added.

In November 2012, the company introduced a publicly available charging station at California’s Residence Inn San Juan Capistrano, California, US.

The company noted that the charging station data shows a total distribution of nearly 2 MWh of energy, averaging five users per day.

Fuji Electric Corp. of America president and CEO Phil Charatz said that the success of the charging station at the Residence Inn reaffirms the company’s belief that the development of DC Quick Charging infrastructure is critical to the long-term success of the EV industry.

"Fuji Electric will continue to invest heavily in R&D to manufacture products that will further enhance the EV owner’s experience and reduce the total cost of ownership for station owners," Charatz added.

Fuji Electric Corp. of America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Electric, a Japanese manufacturer of industrial equipment.
