BESIX Group subsidiary Six Construct has secured a contract to build two bridges, a ramp and tunnel in Dubai, UAE.

The contract was awarded by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) following a competitive tender process.

As agreed, BESIX Group will build two flyover bridges, a one-lane ramp and a two-lane tunnel in the Shindagha District near Port Rashid.

The two bridges, along Al Khaleej Street, will feature six lanes in each direction. The one-lane ramp will be built from Khaled bin Al Waleed Street towards Al Khaleej Street northbound, while the 456m-long tunnel will run under the Al Falcon junction.

The work also includes street lighting, traffic systems, signing and road marking, a stormwater drainage system and the maintenance of existing services.

Once complete, the new infrastructure is expected to boost traffic flow and improve connectivity in the region. Construction is expected to be completed in 2022.

BESIX Contracting Middle East general manager Olivier Crasson said: “We are proud to participate in a project that will improve mobility and safety in Dubai.

“Works will be carried out in such a way that traffic will not be disrupted. We attach great attention to traffic flow and safety and have planned our working methods accordingly.”

The awarded contract is part of RTA’s Shindagha Corridor Improvement project, which is set for a 2027 completion.

It involves building a 13km-long road network along Sheikh Rashid, Al Mina, Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets in five phases.
