The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has opened the extension of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street that connects Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Yalayes Road.

Located in the eastern part of Dubai Emirate, the 25km-long extension was built at a cost of AED474m ($129.05m).

RTA director-general and Board of Executive Directors chairman Mattar Al Tayer said: “The Project is part of RTA’s master plan for improving roads, bridges, crossings and underpasses to accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and ease the traffic movement in all parts of Dubai Emirate.

“It is also part of the overall efforts to implement RTA’s strategic plan for upgrading roads and transport infrastructure in Dubai.

“It is also part of the overall efforts to implement RTA’s strategic plan for upgrading roads and transport infrastructure in Dubai.”

“The objective is to develop integrated solutions of roads and marine network that are safe for users, capable of matching to the development plans and demographic growth and encouraging the development and investment in the Emirate.”

He said that the extension involved the construction of a four-lane street in each direction from the intersection with Dubai-Al Ain Road to the existing R/A at Al Yalayes Road.

The project work also included building multiple intersections with the surrounding roads network and a flyover at the intersection of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan St with Latifa bint Hamdan St.

The construction of a signalised junction at the intersection with Al Qudra Road, as well as a surface signalised junction at the intersection of Hessa St, also formed part of the work package.

Al Tayer further added that works are underway to develop the last sector of the street from the intersection of Al Yalayes Road up to Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road and the entrance of Expo 2020 area.
