Equipment maintenance, repair and installation service company Atlantic Tower Services (ATS) has selected Trimble to implement the latter’s Driver Safety solution across its fleet of vehicles to reduce risk on road.

The move follows ATS’s implementation of Trimble Fleet Management, a cloud-computing platform that provides visibility into day-to-day field service operations.

With the Driver Safety solution, ATS will now have complete back-office analysis of aggressive manoeuvres such as jackrabbit starts, hard braking, harsh turns and speeding, enabling management to coach poor drivers who put the company at risk.

"Creating a safe-driving culture has been the hallmark of ATS, and Driver Safety will support them in continuing this commitment."

The Trimble Driver Safety in-vehicle hardware provides drivers with feedback about their driving behaviour so they can make immediate changes to their driving style.

According to the 2013 figures revealed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 2.3 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents.

ATS fleet administrator Karen Anderson said: "As one of the leading suppliers of tower, lines and antenna maintenance and installation in North America and the Caribbean, driver safety is an integral part of our culture.

"We understand the consequences of poor driving and we chose Trimble Driver Safety because it identifies and monitors unsafe practices so we can quickly mitigate risks on the road.

"Making sure our drivers adhere to company safety policies is vital to protecting them and our business."

ATS initially equipped its service vehicles with Trimble’s Fleet Management solution, which provides visibility into the progress of technicians, enabling field managers to make intelligent decisions on fleet performance and asset utilisation based on real-time information.

Trimble field service management division general manager John Cameron said: "Creating a safe-driving culture has been the hallmark of ATS, and Driver Safety will support them in continuing this commitment.

"Using Driver Safety, ATS can monitor driving performance while boosting productivity with reduced downtime and reduced driver injuries. Trimble Driver Safety can enable ATS to deliver on its goal of maintaining a safe-driving culture while improving efficiencies and overall ROI."

According to ATS, fleet management also allows it to auto-generate reports that detail gas consumption and vehicle stops so managers can coach their drivers on unnecessary idling and reduce fuel usage.
