TransCore has been awarded a new project for the implementation of Phase III of the Silicon Valley Express Lanes Programme along US 101.

Awarded by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), the current deal is the third consecutive project received by TransCore after successfully completing the deployment of Phase I of the programme and with work on the Phase II currently underway.

Once completed, the first three phases of the Silicon Valley programme will run from Milpitas to Palo Alto.

VTA Engineering and Programme Delivery Division deputy director Casey Emoto said: “As the congestion management agency for Santa Clara County, it is vital for VTA to utilise the most effective tools and services on the market to ensure improved mobility throughout our region.

“We have relied on, and benefitted from, TransCore’s expertise for the Silicon Valley Express Lanes Programme with excellent results.”

In 2012, the US company was a member of the team that carried out VTA’s first phase of express lanes along State Road 237 (SR 237) and Interstate-880 (I-880), and helped reduce travel time for drivers in all lanes.

In 2015, the transportation authority appointed TransCore to install its express lanes tolling technology for Phase II, which extends express lanes operations along SR 237 westward to Sunnyvale, California.

The work on the second phase is expected to be completed in 2019.

The company was also selected for implementation of its tolling technology for the US 101 / SR 85 corridor, with Phase III being the first deployment slated for US 101 from SR 237 to the Santa Clara / San Mateo County Line.

In addition, it will deploy its Infinity Digital Lane System designed specifically for express lanes operations.
