Veidekk has been selected to upgrade Highway 2 by constructing a 9.6km-long extension between Kongsvinger and Slomarka, which is set to cost NOK566m ($93.9m).

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration, a Norwegian government agency, responsible for state and county public roads, made the decision.

The upgrade programme will involve the construction of a four-lane road from Kløfta to Kongsvingerm, which measures 16.5m in width and includes middle railings and a hard shoulder.

The road will feature three bridges, with 70, 40 and 20 yard lengths respectively, and four transfer bridges, each measuring around 50m.

Veidekk’s work will also feature two double-level intersections for park-and-ride services, one in Slomarkakrysset and one in the Leikvang intersection.

The company is expecting to start construction work in August 2012 and has scheduled completion for September 2014.

The second major contract on highway 2 will be taken out by construction company Veidekk, which is set to build a 4.6km-long section between Kurudsand and Gulli in the Kongsvinger municipality.
