Construction company Skanska has been awarded a $118m contract by the Florida Department of Transportation to design and construct a bridge in the state.

The proposed two-lane bridge will be constructed parallel to the existing Choctawhatchee Bay Bridge (SR 83) in Walton County, Florida.

SR 83 is the state designation for US Route 331 that runs between US 98 (FL 30) in Santa Rosa Beach and US 90 (FL 10) in DeFuniak Springs.

The latest contract also includes a new public park facility and associated road work. Construction on the project is slated to begin in July, with completion scheduled for June 2016.

Skanska USA is a project development and construction company headquartered in New York. The company has revenues of Skr37.3bn ($5.54bn), and has around 8,300 employees.

In January, Skanska was awarded a contract by the Swedish Transport Administration to construct the final stretch of the E6 highway which connects Pålen and Tanumshede in the south-west part of the country.

In 2012, the company secured a two-year design and construction contract, in partnership with Balfour Beatty, to upgrade sections of the M25 London orbital motorway for the UK’s Highways Agency.
