German firm Hoeft & Wessel will supply an e-ticketing solution for a pilot project run by the city of Hamburg’s public transport corporation Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV).

Developed by the firm’s Almex business division, the e-ticket uses a electronic customer card enabling passengers to buy tickets using cashless payments within the pilot area in the Hamburg-Harburg district and the adjacent Harburg rural district.

The system will be based on the German VDV-KA standard, which allows customers to use their electronic cards interoperably.

The company will deliver the solution under contract with regional transport company Hamburger Hochbahn by the second half of 2010.

The HVV manages a public transport network operated by over 30 transport companies covering three federal states and seven municipal districts.
