The US state of California has signed a $2.27m with Iteris for Phase 2 of its Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) project in the city of Corona.

Under contract, traffic management specialists Iteris will integrate over 27km (17 miles) of new fibre-optic cable and carry out improvements to 24km (15 miles) of existing fibre-optic cable from the first phase of the project.

During the project, six new Gigabit Ethernet communication hubs, 30 new CCTV cameras, eight Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and one microwave Gigabit Ethernet backhaul link will be deployed.

Phase 2 will also involve upgrading 29 existing video-based traffic detection systems to Ethernet-based communications.

The company originally completed the first phase of the project in 2003, which involved improving transportation management in the corridors of Corona.
