Urban mobility solutions provider Parkeon has selected Sierra Wireless’ AirPrime HL Series embedded modules to enable mobile connectivity in smart parking kiosks worldwide.

The modules can adapt to 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, and allow worldwide deployments by enabling a path to low power wide area (LPWA) network connectivity and low power consumption for solar-powered parking metres.

Sierra Wireless OEM Solutions senior vice-president Dan Schieler said: "Smarter parking management is a key requirement for many city managers.

"Our parking metres are now interactive kiosks, delivering services and connecting people."

"Municipalities today are trying to improve their operating efficiencies while also managing increasing levels of traffic.

"Our continued collaboration with Parkeon using the HL8548 and HL7588 LTE modules allows Parkeon to deliver cost-effective solutions that meet the varying needs of any smart city deployment."

Parkeon stated that firms operating within the vicinity of its smart parking kiosks can offer customised coupons and special deals to customers, thereby having new revenue streams, while citizens can have an easy way of paying their fines.

The firm has also introduced a mobile parking service through its Whoosh! app, which enables citizens to pay for parking through their computers, phones or tablets.

AirPrime HL Series uses the footprint-compatible CF3 form factor and can be upgraded when future modules, including the LTE-M variants, become available.

Parkeon CEO Bertrand Barthelemy said: "Our parking metres are now interactive kiosks, delivering services and connecting people."

Parkeon’s latest smart parking kiosks have been deployed in Europe and North America.
